Enjoy long walks through open glens on the Isle of Skye, try your hand at trout fishing on hill lochs and learn how to smoke salmon, make sausages and prepare scallops and langoustines. A great week to recharge ina breathtaking Highland fishing village topped off with a visit to the local Inn for a night of seafood and folk music. Saturday – Depart Edinburgh for the dramatic Highlands and Islands and Glencoe (30 mins walking) via Stirling for the history of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. Stopping off for short walks and scenic stops we wind our way through the Highlands to the dramatic west coast. Late afternoon we arrive at the peaceful fishing village of Stromeferry on the banks of Loch Carron, our home for the next two nights. Sunday – From Elgol on the Isle of Skye catch the boat to Loch Coruisk. Walk through the awesome Cuillin Mountains winding your way through Glen Sligachan down to the hotel for refreshments. 4-5 hours walking. Try some ale brewed on the premises! Monday – In Stromeferry we take a seal spotting cruise with a local crab and prawn (langoustines) fisherman and taste fresh local seafood. Meet the local butcher to learn about cuts of venison or lamb and make sausages. Enjoy an evening of smoking and eating salmon. Tuesday –Visit the West Highland Dairy to buy cheese and visit local vegetable growers. Take an afternoon walk through the hills for fishing and a BBQ by the loch. Whether a beginner or experienced enjoy the peace of fishing in the hills. Walk to the Plockton Inn for food and folk music. 3.5-4.5 hours walking. Wednesday – Learn basic salad and herb growing methods for window box gardening. Forage for seaweed on the shoreline and other seasonal wild foods in the woods (1-2 hours walking). Visit Eilean Donan Castle. Thursday – A day on the magical Isle of Skye with the Cuillin Mountains and rugged cliffs. Our first stop will be Dunbeag, a 2000yr old Celtic Broch, or village fort, with stunning views over Loch Bracadale. (1-2 hours walking) The Stein Inn for lunch, famous for Haggis toasties! We will visit Dunvegan Castle or take in some fresh air along the Coral beaches (1 hour walking) stopping in Portree, the main town on the Isle of Skye. Friday - Take in the stunning landscape of Loch Sheil and romantic Eilean Donan Castle. We take a walk (1-2 hours) through a National Nature reserve. Return to Edinburgh via a dram at a single malt distillery.
